How Long Does a Kitchen Remodel Take?
Learn About Kitchen Remodeling from the Experts at ADR!
Kitchens vary in shapes, size, color, and materials. A question that our clients often ask is, “How long will this project take?” We’re here to help answer that question for you. Read on to learn more!
When Adroit starts a kitchen remodeling project, we move through a variety of phases to ensure that the end result is in line with the needs, wants, and budget of the client. The steps are:
- Design and Contract
- Demolition
- Rough-In
- Finishing
- Cabinet and Appliance Installation
Design and Contract Phase
This is the creative part. During the design and contract phase, you work together with us to develop a budget and work with our team of suppliers and trade specialist to select products and review design ideas. We work together with you, ask questions, and listen to your needs, wants, and ideas to create the design for your kitchen remodel. We will then refine the design, obtain material quotes, prepare a detailed scope of work, help you pick out products, and finalize the remodeling costs. Once this process is complete – we begin!
Demolition Phase
This is the fun part – watching the first phase of construction! We’ll carefully and safely remove cabinets, appliances, floors, walls, and anything else that needs to be removed per the contract. In some cases the kitchen is completely demolished to the studs, and in other cases we retain original details of the home – especially for historic home remodeling.
Rough-in Phase
During the rough-in phase, we lay out the basic lines for your new kitchen, including electrical and plumbing. We also install windows if an opening is moved or created. At this point in time the inspectors come by, take a look at our work, and give us an A-OK to start drywall.
Finishing Phase
During this phase, we hang, tape and finish drywall, and install any needed doors and trim. We prime the walls and install your shiny new floors. Once this is complete, we move on to the next phase.
Cabinet and Appliance Installation Phase
The final phase includes cabinets, appliances, and countertops. This is when your new kitchen begins to take form! We install your new cabinets, countertops, sink, stove, refrigerator, and any other elements of design that you’ve chosen for your new kitchen.

How Long Does This Take?
Now that we’ve discussed the steps required in a kitchen remodel, we can talk about time. Here is a general guide:
- The average kitchen remodel take 4 to 5 weeks after design and selections.
- A small kitchen remodel that includes only countertop, hardware, appliances, and paint, will take about 2 to 3 weeks.
- A large, custom kitchen remodel could last beyond 6 weeks or more depending on products, fitting cabinets for an older home, or miscellaneous items or repairs that may need to happen.
Of course, these are guidelines, but we’ve remodeled many kitchens over the years and have found these to be reasonable averages.
